If your child’s school agrees, I can come into school and deliver a session for your child during the school day. This works really well and supports your child in an environment that they can find challenging. If this isn’t possible, I can alternatively come to see your child at home during school hours in the comfort of their own space, again with school agreement that they can miss lesson time.
Once you have contacted me about your child, we will arrange an introductory telephone call for you to tell me what your child needs help with. After that we can book a free face to face consultation during which I will come to your house and meet you and your child and we can talk together about what you and your child want to achieve from the sessions and how solution based therapy works. If after the session you and your child are happy to go ahead, then we can progress to speaking to school about arranging support in school hours.
If I already see children in your child's school I will liaise with the Senco in the first instance to find a suitable day and time to take your child out of lessons for 45 minutes each week for their therapy session. The number of sessions that your child will benefit from varies from person to person. Please contact me to find out if I’m already in your child’s school.
If I’m not currently working in your school, it works well if you, the parent or carer, approach the school Senco, teacher or wellbeing lead to ask if they would support in-school therapy sessions and explain why it is important to your child. If they are open to it then I will speak to them to find a suitable time for your child’s sessions. All I need is a small private space - I don’t need to leave any equipment and I fully appreciate that space in schools is severely squeezed.
Before the first session I would visit the school with all necessary documentation for them to photocopy and meet anybody that they would like me to meet. Normal requirements are photo ID, DBS certificate, insurance documents and my qualification certificate.
If it’s not possible to come into school then often schools support therapy outside of school but during school hours so I could come and deliver the session in your home.
This is a private arrangement so the invoice will come directly to you. I don’t update the teacher on your child’s progress. You may update them if you wish to do so, but that’s entirely your choice.
